Huoshiling Fm
Type Locality and Naming
The Huoshiling Formation was erected by Yang Xuelin in 1973. The reference section is in Yingcheng of the Jiutai City of Jilin (borehole No.226 and No.50) (125°54´00", 44°9´00").
Lithology and Thickness
Songliao Basin. The Huoshiling Formation is mainly represented by gray green andesite, tuff and tuffaceous conglomerate with small amounts of siltstone, sandstone, argillite and coal streaks. It is 426.6 m thick. In Shibeiling, it is made up of greatly thick andesite with a thickness of more than 1000 m.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
Its base marked by purple red andesite basalt is distinguished from the underlying Triassic Permian strata and lies unconformably on the latter.
Upper contact
Its top marked by andesite separated from tuffaceous sandstone of the overlying Shahezi Fm and lies conformably under the latter.
Regional extent
The Huoshiling Formation is of volcanic rock series and is mainly distributed in Jiutai-Yingcheng and Shibeiling and Dalingzishan of Changchun. It has been correlated with the Didao Formation of JBM basins based on facies similarities.
